(Utica, NY)- Family Court Attorney Jason D. Flemma today announces that he is running for Oneida County Family Court Judge in this November’s election. Flemma has received the endorsements of both the Oneida County Republican and Conservative Parties, respectively. As such, he will appear on both the Republican and Conservative lines on November 2nd.
Flemma said, “As someone who has the privilege of working in Oneida County Family Court each and every day, I’ve seen firsthand the positive difference that can be made in the lives of children and families. I wake up and go to work knowing that I can have an impact. It would be an honor to serve our great community as a Judge, and I humbly ask voters to look at my unique qualifications as both a successful attorney in private practice as well as my service in Oneida County Family Court, and support my candidacy.”
During law school, Jason began his dedication to family law by representing children in Queens County Family Court. Thereafter, Jason worked for the Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York representing victims of domestic violence and marginalized members of our community and moved into private practice working primarily on family court and matrimonial issues; representing mothers, fathers, extended family members and children. In 2015, he joined the staff of the Hon. Julia M. Brouillette, Family Court Judge, as her Court Attorney, where he works and practices in the day-to-day operations, as well as the longer-term planning and goals of the Oneida County Family Court.
While serving in private practice, Jason was elected to represent South Utica on the City Council. During his time on the Council, he worked on legislation to move the city forward while responding to and addressing constituent concerns.
Flemma’s service to the community also includes being a member of the Oneida County Bar Association, coordinating and running the South Utica Neighborhood Association, serving on the Board of his daughter’s figure skating team – the Clinton Figure Skating Club, participating on the City of Utica’s Access and Inclusion Committee and as a past member of the City of Utica Ethics Board. He was also a past board member of the Neighborhood Center Inc.
Jason was born and raised in Oneida County and graduated from New Hartford High School. He received a B.A. from Ithaca College and a Juris Doctor from Hofstra Law School, where he served as an Associate Editor of the Hofstra Law Review. He is married to Alana Herbowy Flemma, a kindergarten teacher in the Whitesboro School District, with whom he has two children, Isadora and Sebastian.
The judgeship is up for election because of the retirement of the Hon. James R. Griffith. Due to the timing of his retirement, there will be no primary and the respective political committees will choose their nominees for the November 2nd ballot.
